چکیده

By essence qualitative modelling is of great interest for education in science as mentioned in many papers. In line with this statement modelling the processes that ought to be taught to students, such as the ones involved in the large biochemical cycles, is essential. This paper presents a set of four models to support both the modelling of the longterm carbon cycle and the explanation of a critical event in the history of our planet, namely the large drop of the atmospheric CO2 during the second part of the Paleozoic period (450-300 million years ago). The main processes are captured in a library of model fragments. Different clustering of model fragments allows for building qualitative models with different scope. In collaboration with domain experts this paper presents the essential processes to generate a consistent explanation of the phenomenon.

مدل‌سازی اثر تغییر اقلیم بر انتشار دی‌اکسیدکربن خاک در مراتع خشک (جنوب ایران)

Introduction: Carbon stored in soils particularly in arid rangelands soils is the most significant carbon sink in terrestrial ecosystems. In arid rangelands, Soils have special places in both carbon sequestration and mitigate global warming. Therefore, any small change in the soil organic carbon (SOC) leads to a significant impact on the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere. Studies have shown t...

Effect of a long-term cultivation and crop rotations on organic carbon in loess derived soils of Golestan Province, Northern Iran

The effects of 34 years cultivation on organic carbon content of the loess derived soils were studied in Golestan province, northern Iran. Soil organic carbon (SOC) showed significant decrease in most of cases. The minimum and maximum SOC decreases were 4 and 51.14 Mg C ha-1/30 cm for 34 years. In a few cases there was an increase in SOC up to 16.93 Mg C ha-1/30 cm over the period of 34 years i...

Asymmetric Impact of Oil Prices, Foreign Direct Investment and Economic Growth on Carbon Emissions in Iran: Evidence from the NARDL Approach

The amount of environmental pollution can be caused by several factors. These factors are not in the same position in terms of importance and impact, and not all of them can necessarily be seen together in one place or time. Therefore, the main purpose of this study is to investigate the asymmetric impact of oil prices, foreign direct investment and economic growth on carbon emissions in Iran d...

Modeling of CO dispersion from the Stack of an Iranian cement industry

The objective of our study was to simulation of carbon monoxide (CO) dispersion exited from the stacks of a cement industry of Doroud, Iran by Gaussian Model (GM). Four sampling period was conducted to measurement of CO from the factory's three-stack flow during one year. The input parameters for were the rate of CO emission, meteorological data, factors of related to the stack, and factors of ...
